It already looked like the Sooners were going to wear Rough Rider uniforms this Saturday, but it appears that the helmet could have a black stripe this week.
Happy Thursday, friends and fans!
They say where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and right now it would appear that the Oklahoma Sooners plan on debuting an alternate helmet for this Saturday’s Big 12 opener against the Kansas State Wildcats . This OU lid appears to be the cream Rough Rider lid featuring a black stripe.

Another detail fans may have already noticed is the ‘UNITY’ sticker below the Big 12 logo on the back of the helmet. OU players wore this sticker on their classic crimson helmets in the 2020 season opener, but the lettering at that time was white as opposed to black to offset the font from the background color.

Sooner fans are still a bit divided on Oklahoma’s ‘Rough Rider’ uniforms, but one thing is for sure — it excites the team and is good for recruiting. I, for one, enjoy seeing OU don something other than the traditional look every once in a while, just as long as they never wear that cursed red-red-red combo ever again. Seriously, never again please.
Now for today’s Hot Links! A former OU basketballer is back as an assistant, defensive leaders are stepping up for the Sooners, Tennessee buys more stock in Pruitt and more!
Cade Davis — the three-point, rainbow shot artist himself — is back with the OU men’s basketball team as a graduate assistant after spending the last nine years hooping internationally. Welcome back to Norman, Cade! Boomer!
After a decade of playing overseas, Cade Davis is back in Norman. He joins OU’s staff as a graduate assistant.

SI Sooners’ Parker Thune recently wrote about junior safety Patrick Fields ’ rise to becoming Oklahoma’s lone defensive team captain in 2020. His teammates have lauded the Tulsa native for his leadership qualities on and off the field .
Speaking of Fields, he and DC Alex Grinch recently shared glowing reviews on junior DE Ronnie Perkins . Despite serving a suspension for a failed drug test prior to last season’s Peach Bowl , Perkins has been a vocal leader and supportive teammate . Whenever he does make his return, he’s expected to pick up where he left off — dominating as one of Oklahoma’s top defensive playmakers, writes the Tulsa World’s Eric Bailey.
Sooners Wire’s Kegan Reneau has been reviewing several OU position units, including breaking down the running back room and taking a closer look at the H-back rotation . In the backfield, junior RB T.J. Pledger is expected to return to the lineup, but true freshman Seth McGowan is showing that he has what it takes to take over if needed. At the H, sophomore Austin Stogner leads one of the strongest groups in Lincoln Riley’s offense.
Make sure you read up on Jack’s Q&A with Jon Morse of Bring on the Cats . What area is most concerning to K-State fans following the surprising loss to Arkansas State, and is Skylar Thompson totally healthy going into this Saturday?
Howdy, Sooner fans! The brilliant designers over at BreakingT recently released this hot-off-the-press, OU-themed ‘Quick-Strike Offense’ t-shirt just for you. Since Lincoln Riley began calling plays for Oklahoma five seasons ago, the offense in Norman has been among the most lethal attacks in FBS history. The first four drives of the Oklahoma #Sooners ’ season:
