A trio of incoming freshmen at Oklahoma State took home honors this weekend at the U20 Men’s Freestyle Nationals, including a winner.
Christian Carroll, the No. 1 wrestler in his high school class, dominated his way to a a title at 125kg. He entered the tournament as the 6 seed, but he recorded five technical falls in six tournament matches while outscoring opponents a combined 61-7 throughout the event. He capped off his tournament with some firing pistols.
Carroll flipped a Penn commitment to Oklahoma State in November and signed with the Cowboys. He is projected as a college heavyweight.
Other OSU signees Braydon Thompson and Cael Hughes also performed at the event, with Thompson taking home third at 86kg and Hughes — the Junior Dan Hodge award winner — taking sixth at 61kg.
Carroll’s victory earns him an automatic spot in the best-of-three finals at the U20 World Team Trials in June where he will face the winner of the trials for a spot on the U20 World Team. Thompson and Hughes qualified for the U20 World Team Trials.
