OSU Forward Tyreek Smith Reportedly Enters Transfer Portal

OSU lost its fifth player this offseason to the transfer portal on Wednesday as senior forward Tyreek Smith, who led OSU in 2022-23 in field goal percentage at 59.6%, entered the transfer portal, according to multiple reports. Smith joins fellow frontcourt mates Kalib Boone, Woody Newton and Moussa Cisse as players to hit the portal following the season. Avery Anderson, the team’s assist leader and second-leading scorer, is also transferring.

Smith joined OSU in 2021-22 after spending two seasons at Texas Tech primarily as an off-the-bench specialist who provided rim protection and finished lobs around the rim. In his first season at OSU he posted a career-high in points (3.5), rebounds (2.8) and minutes (12.1) per game while improving across the board as a shooter. He continued that upward trajectory last season in adding 5.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.9 blocks and 16.4 minutes per game, making nine starts and appearing in all 36 games.

Smith hits the portal as an immediately-eligible prospect because he is a graduate transfer where he will have one year remaining at his next school of choice. He is the fourth player listed 6-foot-9 or taller from OSU’s roster last season to leave via transfer and seventh confirmed departure, joining Caleb Asberry and Bernard Kouma, both of whom no longer have eligibility.

Below is an updated look at who we know (so far) is staying and going in our latest transfer tracker.
