With wins beginning to stack and the stakes steadily ratcheting up, the biggest game for Oklahoma State moving forward is its next one — and that goes down Saturday in Fort Worth, America.
The No. 8 Cowboys head to Texas to take on No. 13 TCU in what figures to be a game of the week in college football. Both 5-0 teams have jumped to the top of the Big 12 standings in hot starts and can use the 2:30 p.m. kick as a launching pad directly into the playoff discussion.
The Pistols Firing staff convened to share our predictions for Saturday’s score and how we see things playing out.
Score: OSU 35 | TCU 31
Thoughts: I’ve gone back and forth on this most of the week. I just keep coming back to the fact that OSU beat TCU by 46 last season. Can 46 points be made up in a year? I think OSU is the better team, but the Cowboys haven’t played well in Fort Worth as of late. But, give me Spencer Sanders and OSU’s defensive line to buck the trend in a tight one.
Score: OSU 34 | TCU 31
Thoughts: TCU is the slight betting favorite entering the week, which I . . . kinda love? Had OSU been road favorites after a 5-0 start, I think I’d have been more concerned. It’s extra motivation for an OSU team that historically has fared quite well as an underdog under Mike Gundy. More than that, though, I think OSU is frankly just the better team. Better quarterback. Better receivers. Better talent defensively. I think it ends with OSU getting the better of TCU in a nail-biter.
Score: OSU 42 | TCU 38
Thoughts: I’m taking the over. This will be the best offense Oklahoma State has faced all season, and may be the best they face the rest of the way. No team has held TCU to less than 38 points to this point, so that’s where I’ll park the Horned Frogs. If the Cowboys get out of Fort Worth with a win, it’s a big win. This might be the shootout I predicted last weekend. Just get ready to hear the Joey Galloways of the world complain about the Big 12’s lack of defense.
