The first weekend of the high school soccer season is in the books and Norman High’s and Norman North’s boys and girls all played close games, none decided my more than a single goal. Opening Thursday night, both the North boys and girls lost in shootouts at Yukon, while both Tiger teams claimed narrow victories at Moore on Friday. NHS girls 2, Moore 1: The Tigers had a huge shot advantage — 15 to 1 — yet Moore’s single chance went in the net, forcing NHS to gut out a victory. Emma Rice netted the Tigers’ first tally, assisted by Alia Adams. Alayna Mendoza scored the game-winner, assisted by Hayley Husted. NHS boys 2, Moore 1: Though the Tigers did not lead until very late in the game, they came out on top thanks to a pair of second half goals. After Moore scored early in the second half, Mason King tied it up for NHS with 18 minutes remaining. With only three minutes remaining, Lenni Ahrens netted the game winner. Yukon girls 2, North 1 (SO): Keeli Chapman scored the Timberwolves only goal in Thursday’s season-opener before the game moved to a shootout. Yukon claimed victory thanks to a 4-3 penalty-kick advantage.
